Residential Plumbing Services Mesa AZ – Jack Gets Screwed By A Cheap Plumber

The problem with purchasing a fixer-upper investment house is that they often have plumbing issues involving leaky pipes, inefficient hot water heaters, code violations, etc. Sure, an inexpensive company can provide a temporary patch, but low quality craftsmanship is certain to end in catastrophic failure at one point or another. Investing in bargain-basement services, although less expensive in the short-run, always result in costly situations in the near-future. This is the story of a man named Jack. Jack purchased a fixer-upper requiring a bit of work. With intention of keeping costs down, Jack decided to hire discount vendors. Little did Jack know, he was about to experience the worse migraine headache of his life.

Upon the initial walk-through, it was apparent that the home would require some intense plumbing services. Slow drains, leaky pipes, inefficient water heaters, broken irrigation systems and code violations galore. The potential problems were too numerous to mention. 'Cheap Plumbing Services Mesa AZ', a popular Google search performed by people seeking discount services, will return a list of near-by businesses advertising inexpensive alternatives to pro-grade professionalism. The problem with Google is that it can be manipulated to display content that the company wants one to see. Even fraudulent five-star reviews can be purchases over-seas. Therefore, when hiring inexpensive services without further investigation, the end result may not be as expected. The true cost of professionalism generally reflects the monetary cost involved. Inexpensive services will almost always reflect the use of cheaply manufactured products, inadequate functioning equipment and a sub par level of craftsmanship involving cutting-corner, hacks and short-cuts. Quality-control is drastically manipulated by the budget allotted to a project. Restricting available funds yields inferior results. Period. Whether hiring professional carpet care or expert plumbing services, cost will always limit the expected level of services obtained. However, a large number of people are under the persuasion that a skilled service can be had by shopping bargain-basements, coupon magazines and discount companies. Although there will always be individuals who will continue wasting valuable time and money simply because they do not give a damn or are too ignorant to know the difference. As for Jack, he falls under the ignorant crowd because he never would have chosen a discount plumbing company if he had known the results before hand.

800 PLUMBER-AZ, sporting a fancy name, number and claiming to offer best services for the lowest prices in Mesa AZ, Jack was instantly locked into a false-advertising scheme. Arriving 45-minutes late, diving an unmarked vehicle, for a 'free' estimate, the technician wreaked of cigarette smoke and spoke with the mouth of a sailor. Needless to say, first impressions were not good at all, but the price was a steal of a deal, too good to pass by. During the initial evaluation, the technician spent very little time evaluating each plumbing issue but was quick to state a low quote along with a bull-shit explanation containing too good to be true promises. Despite his better judgment, Jack bit his tongue, swallowing all the nonsense he was being spoon-fed, walking directly into a trap.

Once the estimation was complete, Jack was informed that water heating issues were likely due to a poorly functioning hot water heater, regardless it being a newer efficient tank-less model. Upon further investigation, not only was the hot water heater at fault, but so was faulting plumbing that was not up to code. After tearing down sections of dry-wall throughout the house, the faulty plumbing was determined to lead into the kitchen and up to the master bedroom bathroom. Although the plumbing appeared to be identical throughout the entire home, they claimed it was only from the hot water heater, to the kitchen and up to the master bedroom bathroom. The technician also claimed that slow draining sinks was due to the plumbing rather than hair-balls removed from p-traps.

To save money, they insisted on installer smaller diameter plastic piping, claiming it to be more durable and efficient. As for replacing the tank-less hot water heater, they happened to have a similar replacement unit in a warehouse and would let it go for half price (another cost-saving bargain). Unfortunately, the color was an ugly beige that did not match the coloring of the original. But they insisted it would be fine and it would be painted to match the original. Cheaper plastic parts and a used hot water heater hack should have been a HUGE red flag, but Jack continued to go along with the nonsense.

Although not looking great, the new plumbing and water heater hack seemed to be working okay. The replaced dry-wall was detectable to the trained eye, but did not present an eye-sore. Contracted by the pluming company, the sheet-rocker performed sub-par work that saved a bundle. By the time all was said and done, the rental house appeared presentable, but Jack has yet to awake from his nightmare, which has not begun.

It started by strange creaking noises heard in the bathroom when flushing the toilet. The plumbers assured that it was completely normal and would soon settle back to normal. Next, the water heater seemed to he having difficulty delivering hot water to the shower. It seemed to be either way too hot or too cold. This was due to a faulty thermostat gauge and was promptly replaced with a minimal service charge. Next, Jack began noticing moisture pooling up against garage walls, near the hot water heater. Then an audible drip could be heard but could not detect the source. By this time, Jack was completely fed-up with the discount plumbing company and decided to call a professional. P&L Plumbing arrived on time, driving a clean company vehicle. The well-dressed service technician was educated, well-spoken and displayed characteristics of professionalism. He initially pointed out that our current water heater was way too small for the size of the house and would explain the heating irregularities being experienced. Secondly, he claimed that the plumbing coming from the hot water heater was not to code and pulled out a brochure displaying standard, quality plumbing parts. While in conversation, an audible pop could be heard and water started gushing from the inner-wall. The tiny plastic pipe built-up too much pressure and burst. Jack was furious and immediately dial (800) PLUMBER-AZ only to hear a 'no longer in service' recording. Hopping in his tuck, Jack sped down to the warehouse to find it dark and vacant. No sign of the previous plumber anywhere. No record with the BBB. No registered business name with the city government, not even an email or website available online. Jack got screwed.

In retrospect, avoid becoming the victim of a SAP story, like this, by hiring a qualified service company that is bonded, certified, licensed and insured. Be sure that the company has good customer service policy and that they are easy to contact. Although not recommended as single source of verification, knowing what other members of the community are saying, via five-star reviews, can be a reliable barometer. Never make a purchasing decision based upon cost alone. The lowest price is never advisable, regardless of the service being performed. If you enjoyed reading Jack Gets Screwed By A Cheap Plumber, then you might like Jack And The Scrupulous Carpet Cleaner. Like a fly returning to a steaming pile of horse manure, poor Jack can not seem to learn his lesson and continues to be drawn toward neon lights and low priced bargains. Don't be a Jack.
