Regardless of multiple warning signs, some people are hopelessly drawn to bargain prices like flies to fresh manure. Although we all appreciate getting the best value for the dollar, a level-head is required for making a sound purchasing decision. Hiring a professional service provider for restoring carpeting and upholstery should be no different. However, there are those that continue to believe that cheaper is somehow better and that the industry is out to get them. When it comes to getting the most from an investment of area rugs, carpeting and upholstery in the home, office and work place, there is no substitute for making well-educated decision. The same applies to having them regularly and properly serviced by an expert.

As a professional carpet cleaner with nearly 20-years experience, I am often asked for my opinion regarding new carpeting to be installed. Regardless of pleading my case, regarding the many woes, they often go with the cheapest garbage sold to them by the salesmen. The replacement rate and wear of low-end materials are nearly triple that of traditional quality and the additional cost is only a couple cents per square foot. However, salesmen receive kick-backs for manufacturers due to the additional turn-around rate they generate. Disguised with fancy names and descriptions, cheap carpeting is a billion-dollar industry. In many cases, salesmen have no clue because they are not observing the wear, stain resistance and durability as a professional cleaner that is in hundreds of home and business every year.

When it comes to residential carpeting, material, density and twist make all the difference. Firstly, there is no doubt, among the professional cleaning industry, that nylon, cotton and wool are superior fiber types. For the sake of simplicity and cost, Nylon is by far the best choice for carpeting in the home. All the other polyester, polypropylene, smartstrand, etc. are simply names for recycled plastic. There are twenty or so names currently on the marked designed to confuse and deceive the consumer. Although some boast properties of stain-resistance, the durability of nylon is of a quality magnitudes higher. However, in a situation where carpeting is likely to be abused and frequently replaced anyway, cheap garbage makes since for rental property and apartments, but not in an owner's home. Secondly, the density or number of strands per inch matter as well. The more dense carpeting is, the greater ability it has of distributing weight of traffic and natural wear & tear. High density carpet will last far longer and appear newer than those having fewer thread counts. Finally, the number if twists each fiber has contributes to its durability as well. A fiber having a higher twist-count is more dense and capable of receiving more abuse than those with less. In retrospect, Nylon carpet fiber have a high density thread-count with several twists is going to out-perform pretty much anything else on the market three to one. When it comes to stain resistance, Nylon is very stain resistant and forgiving. Professional carpet cleaners are able to restore Nylon fibers far better than plastic one. Additionally, Nylon is naturally resilient and springs back to life with proper care, where as when plastic is tired, it is not getting back up. Choosing Nylon is the best affordable choice because it provides the customer with the best value.
